Crafty Party!
Back in the time before kids ‘TBK’ for short, I held a Pinterest party. It was a gathering of friends and we all brought crafts to share with each other, some of which we had found on Pinterest and all of which we are willing to succeed or fail at with gusto. I decided as a way to celebrate surviving the school year, I would invite a bunch of friends over for a crafting party ala the Pinterest party I'd had in my past. The hardest part was pearing down all of the ideas for crafts that I had. So instead I just planned for all of them and figured we decide what we wanted to do once everyone got there. Some of the ideas that I had planned follow. Making a sugar scrub is super easy, super fun and can always be used or given as a gift. I had a quick fidget project for the kids. Most of the kids attending were 12 years old and I saw this was a good middle school project and it just required beads and string. And I wanted to do something with the Dollar tree Tumbler/Jenga kits. I don't know if you've ever searched Pinterest for ideas on things you can make, but it seems that your choices are endless. I planned to do coasters because that requires a minimal amount, 12 pieces per coaster. Thankfully my mom actually sent me a few sets of tumbler kits as I could only find a few locally. Friends brought cards and gift wrap paper to stamp and block printing tools. Below see all the fun items prepped for crafting fun.
Being as I'm a quilter, I really wanted it to somehow incorporate quilting into one of the crafts without having to pull out 5 to 10 sewing machines. Not that I don't have five to 10 sewing machines, but that's a whole other story and if you’d like to hear more about my maching collection let me know. I would love to do a sewing party sometime and so that maybe something I schedule in the future. How fun will it be to have multiple sewing machines set up all throughout my house and we're all sewing at the same time. Fun chaos will be had. The way I decided to bring sewing and quilting into this crafting party was to introduce people to English paper piecing or EPP. I prepared hexis as they are a great place to start. I had glue sticks, papers and fabric all prepared so that people could make their own choices on what they wanted to use. I left it at seven hexis per person. I had gotten some little zipper bags before Joanne's went out of business and had just enough for each of the adults and so I figured we could adorn our bags with our hexis. You can always add a little bit more embroidery for some extra flair. Since we didn’t end up completing the EPP at the party my next post will be a little EPP tutorial. Stay tuned!
Overall everyone had a great time. We did a potluck so we ate, drank (wine for the adults, tea for the kids) and made merry through crafts and conversation. In the end, we pretty much just stamped the day away making one of a kind cards and gift wrap and the kids did make their beaded fidget toys. (heres the link to the IG post with instructions for the fidget) And I have craft ideas left over for our next gathering which another friend is hosting later this summer. I am hoping it becomes a regular gathering.
