Quilt Piecing Markers

When preping fabric to make a quilt, organization of all the pieces are essential. There are may ways to mark and track your fabric pieces including baggies, post it notes, Alphabitties. But my favorite is inexpensive and easy to make. Letter Pin Markers are made using 3 simple ingredients. You will need straight pins, letter or number beads and rubber earring backs as well as a couple scraps of fabric (3.5inx4.5in). I chose fun bat pins to use for the Nocturnal Soul Stitchery Quiltalong. I got mine here. She has several fun pins to choose from.

Supplies needed for Quilting Piece Markers

The process is simple. Grab a pin, add a letter bead then hold the bead in place with an earring back. I made a set with single letters A-Z then started double letters to match my Gothic Moth block. The Noturnal Soul Stitchery Quilt along runs from August 25th, 2025 through October 25th, 2025. Sign up anytime before it ends to gain access to the pattern. But don’t wait. The pattern spell wears off once the quilt along is completed and each designers block will go back into their own cauldron.

I wanted to make a holder as simply as possible with little time or fuss. I cut 2 pieces of fabric 3.5in x4.5in. Place them wrong sides together wiht a piece of batting in between and trim with pinking shears. Then sew all around. If you want a little extra bulk to stick the pins in, add a smaller (3in x4in) piece of batting between the layers of fabric. Watch the video for the whole process.
