Another season of Project Quilting!

Do you participate in Project Quilting? It is a fun challenge hosted by Kim Lapacek and Trish Frankland. This is season 17. Every other week they issue a challenge prompt a la Project Runway and give you a week to complete. No prizes just a fun way to practice creativity. Check out the website for more in depth details.

So challenge 17.1 prompt was “Clean Slate” inspire by the uninspiring Pantone Color of the Year, whihc is white if you had not heard. That’s a whole other post so let me know if you would like my thoughts on that. I initially struggled with creativity coming from a blank white canvas. I eventually decided to go with “how do I want to fill 2026’s currently blank slate?” I have big goals both personal and business so I wanted something positive and decided to work with my current focus word “Push”. I have also decided to flex by quilt design creativity dueing this season by designing a block for each challenge. At the end of the season I should have several new ideas some extra design practice as well as maybe a full quilt’s work of blocks. We shall see if i can keep up.

Beaver Quilt Pattern Design

I have so much fun using traditional quilt piecing to bring pictures to fabric.

My family lives in Oregon and one of my youngest’s favorite animals has always been the beaver. When I saw a cute drawing of a rodent lifting weights, I smiled and immediately decided I had to make a beaver pushing weights. My favorite part of the design process is bringing a pattern to life. Now if you look closely you will see mistakes but OMG he is so cute!!

It’s not too late to join in. The next challenge starts January 18th.
